Sanju Samson won’t play in the T20I series over Sri Lanka.

After injuring his left knee while attempting to field a ball close to the boundary lines during the first T20I at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the remaining three games of the T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Samson was sent for scans on Wednesday afternoon, and a specialist has recommended rest and therapy based on his findings.

Jitesh Sharma, a Vidarbha wicketkeeper-batsman, has been called up to the Indian team to take Samson’s place.

He will serve as Ishan Kishan’s cover player for the following two games.

Jitesh Sharma, who played well for Punjab Kings in his first IPL season in 2022, scored 234 runs at a 163.64 strike rate.

The 29-year-old has played in 76 T20 matches overall and is renowned for his hard-hitting style.

India won the first game by a slim margin of two runs, giving them a 1-0 series lead.

In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Hardik Pandya will captain India in their T20 series against Sri Lanka.

Hardik Pandya, who will captain India, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi, and Mukesh Kumar are the players included in the updated squad.
