Following India’s ODI series loss in Bangladesh, former coach Madan Lal attacked the team on Thursday, claiming they lacked “intensity and emotion” and were going in the wrong path.

India suffered a one-wicket loss in the first ODI before losing by five runs to Bangladesh in the second ODI on Wednesday in Mirpur, ending their series 0-2 in their favour.

Definitely not moving in the right direction is the Indian team. Recently, I haven’t seen the team’s intensity. In the past couple of years, I haven’t noticed “Josh” in them, Lal said PTI in an interview.

“They don’t at all resemble an Indian team. The will to play for the nation is absent. Either their bodies are too worn out, or they are merely acting the part. Deepak Chahar, who has struggled with injuries this year, was unable to finish his allotted number of overs during the second ODI.

The Indian team is struggling with injuries that have kept standout pacer Jasprit Bumrah and all-arounder Ravindra Jadeja out of the lineup. India “can’t have individuals coming in to play for the country half-fit,” skipper Rohit Sharma remarked on Wednesday, highlighting the issue of player fitness. Lal, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning side, reacted to Rohit’s statement by saying: “It is a really sad thing.

Something must be amiss if the captain is saying this.

“Who is in charge of this? Are instructors accountable for this? Why do players who are not fit go? The outcome of your international cricket match is in front of you.

“If they want to rest, they can do it while watching IPL games. Your nation must come first. The state of cricket in your country will decline if you do not win ICC trophies. India was eliminated from the T20 World Cup after losing to eventual champions England in the quarterfinals. After losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the super 4, Rohit Sharma and company also left the Asia Cup early.
Lal attributed India’s recent lacklustre performance to the top-order hitters.

How many centuries have they (the seniors) scored during the past three years, according to the records? And how many in the last 12 months? Your hand-eye coordination declines as you get older.

But since they are seasoned players, they ought to have delivered. The 71-year-old former all-rounder also criticised the bowlers for their lack of intensity, saying, “If your top order does not produce you are not going to win.”
“Your bowling unit has suddenly become quite weak. They don’t appear to be getting any wickets. Bangladesh managed to score 271 after going 69 for 6.

So what exactly is going on here?

When asked if it was necessary to have different players for various formats, Lal responded, “Every country plays that way.
Cricketers with unique skills are required for various formats. Why not use various players for various formats? India should follow suit since it is being done by all other nations.
