Kidambi Srikanth, who won bronze in badminton at the Commonwealth Games for India, was shocked on Wednesday in the second round of the world championships in Tokyo by unseeded Zhao Junpeng.
Srikanth, the 12th seed and silver medalist from the previous year’s global championships, fell to Zhao of China 21-9, 21-17, with his second-game comeback unable to last.
Srikanth, who was a member of the Indian team that won the Thomas Cup in May, said that he “could have maybe played better,” but that his opponent was more skilful.

Simply put, he performed well when it counted most, according to the former world number one. I had opportunities to win the second set, and anything might have happened in the third.
The 29-year-old continued, “It’s all about winning the points when it truly matters, and I thought he played incredibly well in the closing moments of the second set.
